Valencia President Manuel Llorente Has No Regrets In Selling David Villa To Barcelona

Valencia president Manuel Llorente has declared that he has no regrets over the sale of star striker David Villa to Barcelona and rubbished suggestions that he should have waited until after the World Cup to sell El Guaje.

Llorente refuted claims that Villa's performances in South Africa, which contributed to Spain's historic World Cup triumph, would have enabled los Che to demand more than the €40 million they received from the Spanish champions to secure the services of the 28-year-old.

"I do not regret having sold David Villa before the World Cup. A World Cup does not determine the price of a player: neither more or less expensive. Leo Messi, for instance, is not worth less after the World Cup," he said, as quoted by Super Deporte.

"It would not have been possible to get more than 40 million within the current policy of Barcelona which also features a line of major economic austerity."
