Chivas president Jorge Vergara has admitted he wished he'd kept Manchester United striker Javier Hernandezuntil the end of their Copa Libertadores campaign.

Hernandez, 22, agreed on the switch to United in April and has made an instant impact. The Mexican side have progressed to the final of South America's elite club competition but missed 'Chicharito's' presence after losing the first leg of the final against Internacional 2-1.

With Tottenham's new signing Sandro not expected in north London until the end of the Brazilian side's campaign, Vergara revealed to Marca his regret at not agreeing a similar deal.

He said: "I am certain he would have made an important contribution against Internacional; maybe our mistake was not having kept Javier at Chivas until the final.
