Dietmar Hamann Slams Manchester City's Transfer Policy & Suggests Citizens Won't Win The Premier League

Former Eastlands midfielder Dietmar Hamann has blastedManchester City for not finishing in the top four last season and says they are not Premier League contenders for the forthcoming campaign either.

According to Mirror Sport, despite the millions pumped into the Northern club by their Arab owners, the MK Dons boss thinks that money won’t guarantee them the league title.

"They should have finished in the top four last season and they didn’t," he said.

"There is every chance they will not finish there again because Liverpool will be better next season and Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton will also be up there."

The former Liverpool playmaker went on to suggest that the players being brought into Eastlands to attempt to take the club to the next level need to be chosen carefully.

"They have got to choose them carefully and buy the right ones. But if they keep doing what they are at the moment I don’t see them challenging Manchester United or Chelsea," he added.

"They have a turnover of 10 to 15 players every season and if they keep doing this they are not going anywhere.

"You need consistency and continuity at a football club. I don’t agree with what they are doing now."

So far this summer, City boss Roberto Mancini has welcomed in a hoard of new arrivals including German international Jerome Boateng, Spanish winger David Silva, and former Barcelona star Yaya Toure.

The Citizens are expected to land Mario Balotelli from Inter in the coming days, which would take their summer spending up to around £100 million.

"City have got bundles to spend and they need to spend wisely," Hamann continued.

"I am not sure if they are doing that. If you don’t do things right off the field it is hard to get them right on it. That transpires to the whole set-up including the backroom staff and doctors.

"The City fans will want to see new arrivals – but big names don’t win you games or win you titles."

The 36-year-old midfielder spent three years at Eastlands but admits he has been left surprised at how his former club are running themselves, insisting the sale of Richard Dunne to Aston Villa was a mistake.

"They have paid a lot of money for all the others and let him [Dunne] go. But I still think he is better than all the central defenders they have got at the club," he concluded.

Remember 1 thing, I LOVE YOU

I never really knew you
You were just another friend

But when I got to know you,
I let my heart unbend.

I couldn’t help past memories
that would only make me cry

I had to forget my first love
and give love another try

So I’ve fallen in love with you
and I’ll never let you go

I love you more than anyone
I just had to let you know

And if you ever wonder why
I don’t know what I’ll say

But I’ll never stop loving you
each and every day

My feelings for you will never change
Just know my feelings are true

Just remember one thing
I Love You!

Arsenal boss Wenger eager to secure Nordtveit to new deal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eager to tie down young defender Havard Nordtveit to a new deal.

The Daily Mail says Wenger will offer a new long-term contract to 20-year-old Nordtveit, who impressed in pre-season after a season on loan at Nurnburg.

The Norwegian Under 21 defender will be part of the first-team squad but Wenger wants at least one more experienced central defender to compete with Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny.

Our friendship will never end.

The rain may be falling hard outside,
But your smile makes it all alright.
I’m so glad that you’re my friend.
I know our friendship will never end.

Extra refs for Champions League

5officials

LONDON- Matches in this season's Champions League will have two additional assistant referees, world governing body FIFA announced on Wednesday.

A meeting of the International Football Association Board's technical sub-committee (IFAB) agreed that an experiment carried out in last year's Europa League would be extended to other competitions, most notably the Champions League.

GEAR: Get a Champions League ball

"At a special meeting of the IFAB held in Zurich on 18 May 2010, the Board had reviewed the experiment with two additional assistant referees that was carried out in the 2009/2010 UEFA Europa League, and had decided to continue the experiment until the 126th IFAB Annual General Meeting in 2012, but not to limit it to a single confederation," a statement said.

Wednesday's decision in Wales to widen the experiment means that two additional referees assistants will also be used in the Asian Football Confederation President's Cup in September, the French League Cup, the UEFA Super Cup as well as domestic competitions in Brazil and Mexico.

However, no decision has been taken on the issue of goalline technology, despite several incidents at the recent World Cup finals, including in a last-16 match between England and Germany in which England's Frank Lampard had a goal ruled out when his shot clearly bounced over the line after striking the crossbar.

FIFA and the IFAB's technical sub-committee will discuss goalline technology in October, the statement said.

Former Teen Star Tiffany Defends Miley Cyrus' "Sexy" Image

In her 80s heyday as a teen pop sensation, singer Tiffanyfavored acid-washed jeans, sneakers, long-sleeved shirts and not too much makeup.

But that doesn't mean that she disapproves of today's much less modest generation of singing teen stars -- especially Miley Cyrus, 17, who has worn cleavage-bearing dresses and skin-tight bodysuits, danced on stripper poles and simulated lesbian kisses on stage.

PHOTOS: Miley's raciest outfits

"Miley Cyrus is on a great track," Tiffany, now 38, toldUsMagazine.com at Saturday's EW Comic-Con party at Hotel Solamar in San Diego.

"I know that there are a lot of people that say well when you are so young you shouldn't be sexy," the "I Think We're Alone Now" singer conceded.

"I think that in today's world you kind of have to be [sexy]-- to be competitive in the market," Tiffany told Us. "I think that she is doing it appropriately. And it's always a fine line there."

PHOTOS: Other child stars who grew up fast

"But I'm a huge fan of hers. I think she's gonna have a long career," she gushed, adding praise to Cyrus' mom and dad, too. "Her parents are guiding her right, and it really matters what base you have around you. Very much so."

Although Tiffany stayed buttoned up during her teenage fame, she did pose nude for Playboy in 2002. She has a 17-year-old son, Elijah, from her first marriage, and has been married to second husband Benn George since 2004.

PHOTOS: Miley's fave look -- short shorts!

The 80s icon is attending Comic Con to help promote Mega Python vs. Gararoid -- the campy scifi flick in which she costars with her former rival Debbie Gibson.

"It was awesome!" she said. "We were always planning on doing something but I think people were expecting more of a musical… and it's not."

PHOTOS: See what your fave stars from back in the day are up to today

Although she and Gibson achieved pop success around the same time, the flick was their first time to bond. "I knew her, but we never really hung out...we have a fond respect for each other but I didn't know if we would end up being buddies."

"It's really nice to be able to say we are really good friends. Of course we always play up the cheeky side...we had the little catfight -- we were loving it!"

Henry given royal treatment

Henry NY

HARRISON, New Jersey - Following in the footsteps of Pele and David Beckham, Thierry Henry has arrived in the United States as a football missionary and scoffed at the notion Major League Soccer is a retirement fund for players in the twilight of their careers.

Like his famous predecessors, the Frenchman has become an instant poster boy for the sport after joining the New York Red Bulls on a four-and-a-half season deal.

GEAR: Get an Henry shirt

The 32-year-old French striker said this would be his final contract as a player, but the former World Cup winner said his motives were clear.

"I can assure you that I came here to try to win," he told a news conference on Thursday. "That is the most important thing. I'm a competitor, and I'm sure the boss will put a team out there to be sure that we can do it."

Henry was taken on a whirlwind trip around New York's major television networks before receiving his number 14 Red Bulls jersey at his new home ground in Harrison, New Jersey.

Flanked by club officials and MLS commissioner Don Garber, Henry arrived at a packed news conference to the backing vocals of The Beatles and the endorsement of his new organization.

The Red Bulls' Swedish coach Hans Backe said he expected great things from Henry, who spent the past decade plying his trade with Arsenal and Barcelona.

"I would rate him ... in the top 10 ever in the (English) premiership as a striker," Backe said. "He's very hungry to give Red Bulls their first premiership."

While Henry has achieved almost every imaginable honour in the game, winning a World Cup and European championship with France as well medals and plaudits with his clubs, he arrives in the United States after a lean past 12 months.

Injuries restricted his appearances for Barcelona and he was also relegated to the substitutes' bench during France's ill-fated World Cup in South Africa where they failed to make it past the group phase.

"I actually would like to know myself what went wrong," he said of France's World Cup display. "We didn't perform. As simple as that ... it was a sad one for the fans and for the country, but I think we should move on now."

Henry, who also announced his retirement from international football on Thursday, said his decision to move to New York was unrelated to France's World Cup showing and that he had been in talks about the transfer for months.

The Red Bulls are hoping Henry will not only help lead the team to a first MLS title but also attract new fans, something that could be tough given New York's large Irish community and Henry's double-handball that allowed France to qualify ahead of Ireland for this year's World Cup in South Africa.

"I've already talked about that," he said. "There's nothing else I can say."
